Women Cell

     Women being the holder of society, every higher educational institution have shed importance on creating awareness for the development of women in the society at all levels. Hence, Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College also established a Women Cell on 22/05/2004 through a meeting of its teachers and other employees, whereby Smt. Mamoni Borgohain became the founder secretary of the Women Cell of Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College. The women cell is a wing of the Assam Teacher's Association. The moto of the cell is to work towards women development both within the college campus and outside. All the women teachers by virtue of their appointment in the college become members of the cell. The cell undertakes different activities for the upliftment of women from different spheres of life. The cell celebrated women and observes International Women's Day every year with a specific theme at a place outside the college premises.

Aims and objectives of the Women Studies Cell

• To change the prevailing negative attitude of the society towards the rights and responsibilities enjoyed by women in life.

• To raise awareness among both men and women to use women's strength as a key resource for national development.

• To bring social issues to the attention of higher education and to make efforts to solve these issues through Women's Studies Cells and to create individuals who can play a more sensitive and elevated role in the development of women's empowerment.

• To unveil new aspects of knowledge on women's empowerment through research and study.

• To adopt policies for the overall development of women by linking organizations directly involved in women's development with higher education institutions.

• To help women enjoy their rights in their families or communities.

• To take necessary and timely steps to ensure a respectable position of women in society.

Observation of International Women's Day by organizing a health awareness programme on the topic "Female health, maternal healthcare and nutrient intake" at Nora Konwar Bailung Gaon Chikrichuk. The programme was organised by the Women cell in collaboration with NSS and IQAC. Sri. Dijen Dutta, Health Educator, BPHC, Gaurisagar.

Observation of International Women's Day at college premises by organizing a recitation, dance and acting competition between the students of the college taking into consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic during that period. The competition was organised by the Women Cell of Jhanji H.N.S. College in collaboration with NSS unit and IQAC.

Observation of International Women's Day at Puronimelia M.V. School by organizing a lecture programme on the theme "Generation Equality: Realising Women's Rights". The programme was organised by Teacher's Unit in collaboration with women Cell, NSS Unit, Bharat Scouts and Guides and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell. Mrs. Mira Bala Borah of Deptt. of Economics and Dr. Santana Dutta of Deptt. Of Sociology acted as resource persons for the programme.

Awareness programme on female health- "Shreemayee- A project of health and hygiene"- an initiative of PATHIK (an NGO) was held in collaboration with Women Cell, Jhanji H.N.S. College to create awareness about the importance of sanitary napkins by women during menstrual period.

A lecture Programme was organised by the Women Cell, NSS Unit and Student Support and Progression Cell (Sub-committee of IQAC) on the topic "Nutrition- a path to healthy body and mind". Dr. Manideepa Barthakur Chakraborty, Retd. V.P. Sibsagar Girls College was invited as the resource person for the programme.

Two-Day UGC sponsored National Seminar on "Gandhian Philosophy and Women Empowerment" was organised by Gandhi Study Centre and Women Cell of Jhanji H.N.S. College to spread messages to the society aiming to change the present social set-up marked by violence, discrimination against women and setting up a new society based on Principle of Peace, justice and Equality.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, Women Cell in collaboration with NSS Unit organised a discussion on the "Role of Women in removing social stereotypes and superstitious beliefs" in Moranchinga Kaibatra Gaon. Dr Anupama Mahanta of Dept. of Sanskrit and Mr. Jibamoni Nath of Dept. of Assamese, Jhanji H.N.S. College were the esteemed resource persons for the discussion.

Cultural Programme by Spic MACAY in collaboration with Women Cell of Jhanji H.N.S. College for the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst the youth. Pandit Bidyut Kr. Misra (violinist) and Amitabh Gayan (Tabla Maestro) performed in this cultural Programme.

A medical Awareness programme was organised by the Women Cell of Jhanji H.N.S. College in collaboration with NSS on the topic "Anemia and Water Borne diseases" at Moranchinga Koibatra Gaon Namghar. Observation of International Women's Day by Women Cell of Jhanji H.N.S. College and Equal Opportunity Centre of college by organizing a Spot Essay writing competition in the college premises. The theme for the students of Class-IX to XII was "Importance of Women Education in present Day" and for Degree Students, it was "Women Education and Equal Rights".

Observed International Women's Day by organizing a talk on the theme "Women Security and Law". Advocate Parinita Barthakur of Sibsagar Court and Dr. Jayanta Gogoi of Deptt. Of Commerce were the esteemed resource persons. The programme was held in the presence of college teachers, students, the local weaver's association, women self-help groups and nearby schools.

7-day tailoring training programme in the college campus was organised by the Women Cell of Jhanji H.N.S. College in collaboration with Gaurisagar Krishak Nyas, Gaurisagar and Reach India, Guwahati. All the ten participants of the programme were provided training as well as sewing machine which were donated by the Usha International Limited.

A Health Awareness Programme was organised by the Women Cell of Jhanji HNS College in association with the Equal Opportunity Centre of the College for the welfare of female folk of the college. Dr. Kalpana Deka Saikia (SDMO Nazira, Sibsagar) was the resource person for the programme.

Organised a general counselling programme in the girl's hostel for the hostel borders to create awareness about their responsibility for the college and society. This programme was undertaken as a measure to minimize their dropout from college due to marriage.

Observation of International mother's day by the Women Cell of Jhanji HNS College in association with No. 80 Najir Pukhuri Prathamik Bidyalaya by organizing an Art and Recitation competition among the students. The theme for the Art competition was - "Mother and Mother's Love". The recitation competition was held on the poem (In Assamese) "Maa Aji Muk Morom Kora"- by Ananta Dev Sarmah.

Observation of International Women's Day by the Women Cell of Jhanji HNS College in association with Assam Lakhika Santha, Jhanji by performing a street play and carrying out a procession. The street play was performed in two interior areas namely- Kamar Khatowal and Puranimelia. The play was written by Mrs. Manjumala Bhattacharyya, a member of Assam Lakhika Santha. The theme of the street play was- Violence against women, the harmful effects of alcohol consumption in society and the Domestic Violence Act
